How much beef do you want?

Not sure? Most families go with a half cow.

Why does it say "about"?

You pay $8 for each pound the cow weighs after the butcher cleans it up, and that already includes cutting, wrapping, labeling and freezing. Our cows usually weigh 600 to 700 lbs at that point, so a whole runs about $4,800 to $5,600, a half $2,400 to $2,800 and a quarter $1,200 to $1,400. Keep in mind this is an estimate, and your price depends on the weight of your steer. Jill tells you the exact price before pickup.
